In May 2008 the search will start for the next 'Mayor of Bath's Young Citizen of the Year 2008/9' who will receive £150 to acknowledge their personal progress or service to the community of Bath - either a sustained effort or one extremely noteworthy act. The Young Citizen will be invited to some of the 700 special events the Mayor will attend throughout the year. The runner-up will receive £50. To enter teenagers must live in Bath, or attend a school/college in the City or belong to a Bath-based group.
The scheme began 14 years ago to counteract negative publicity about young people by celebrating their many fine achievements. This individual award is for a 16, 17 or 18 year old who has made personal progress or given service to the local community. They could be a long-term volunteer, have saved a life, or striven, against the odds, to achieve their full potential (regardless of the level of attainment) in any field – sport, music, science, art, literature etc.
Candidates and their nominator will both need to be available to attend a 15-minute interview during the day on (date in early July - to follow) and the Presentation Ceremony in the Guildhall.
Please
complete and return a nomination
form by 30 May 2008 to The Mayor’s Office, Guildhall, Bath,
