Silver Casket (Peppercorn Box)

The casket was presented to the City by the University, who were asked for a token rent of peppercorns when they leased 106 acres of land from Bath City Council. Every year a dinner was held at which the handing-over took place, hosted alternately by the Mayor and the Chancellor of the University. In the box are 33 peppercorns, in three rows of 11. This ceremony ended in 1996 upon the dissolution of Bath City Council. Silver casket

Wells Cathedral Chalice

This is one of a special edition made to commemorate the 800th Anniversary of the Cathedral at Wells. The first chalice was presented to His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, the second to the Mayor of Bath and the third to the Bishop.

The chalice has a bowl shaped body with an octagonal and decorated stem with two tiers of statues in gothic niches. Around the tile stem of the chalice is a frieze of figures, copied from Wells Cathedral. One is slightly taller than the others and represents the Dean at the time: Dean Mitchell.
