Mayor's Citizen of the Year
The Award
The Mayor of Bath's Citizen of the Year Award seeks to recognise exceptional volunteers who give their time and effort to helping other people without expecting anything in return. The award is made to individuals who have contributed to the well-being of the City and its people by long-term voluntary work or one very special act and is open to residents of Bath, those who work in the City or who belong to a group based in Bath.
Mayor's Citizens 2011
Eight Awards were presented by the Mayor, Cllr Shaun McGall on 28 April 2011 at a presentation ceremony in the Guildhall.
Ms Bates has contributed to Bath's music scene and been involved with the Bath Bach Choir, the Chantry Singers and with several Bath Bach Choir festival performances.
Mr Downes was recognised for his work with Bath Mencap since 1966 and with the Bath Gateway Sports Club.
Ms Mackrill, was awarded for her voluntary work at the University of Bath, her contribution to the Guides and Scouts groups, the Student Community Action group and Rag.
Mr Medcalf demonstrated heroism when the pleasure boat, the Swan, capsized at Pulteney Weir in 2004. He saved the lives of several of the passengers and was instrumental in the successful rescue.
Ms Moore has contributed to the work of the Bath Visually Impaired Bowling Club for 15 years and has been an active and committed member of the community, particularly in relation to the stone mines stabilisation.
Dr Sweetenham has been chair of the Parkinson's UK Bath branch for three years, and chairs all the local branch meetings, having been diagnosed with Parkinson's herself in 2003
